Most women gain some weight during their pregnancy. But Mariah Carey seemed to gain a whole lot more. After giving birth to twins in April 2011, Mariah Carey managed to lose 30 lbs and got down to a healthy US size 6 (UK size 10). The star credits Jenny Craig’s structured eating plan for her weight-loss success, along with a workout routine that helps her stay toned. Gracing the cover of Shape Magazine in tiny shorts and a crop top, she told the magazine:
“I put on 70 lbs. but if you look at me in pictures you’d think it was more like 9,000 lbs. I have a lot of empathy with people who have to lose a lot of weight.” Mariah also talked about the mental struggle to lose so much weight, telling Shape, “I remember thinking at the time: ‘I’ll never look or feel the same again.’”
This mango blueberry quinoa salad with lemon-basil dressing looks so good. Fruity salads are my favourites! For dinner I’d add some chicken though. Quinoa is actually very healthy, because it’s very high in protein and has every one of the nine essential amino acids. These nine essential amino acids are the ones that your body cannot synthesize in quantities sufficient to sustain good health, so they need to come from food sources.

This recipe is one from nutritionist Michael Roussell (PhD, author of 6 Pillars of Nutrition), who often digs into Greek yogurt himself.
“Greek yogurt has twice the protein and half the carbs of regular yogurt, plus it’s so creamy,” Roussell says. “The powder gives added protein and vanilla flavor, while pomegranate berries, loaded with anthocyanins and ellagic acid, are some of the most powerful antioxidants we can get in our diet. Walnuts contain one of the most diverse blends of fats of any nuts, including high levels of omega-3. Some research suggests that daily walnut consumption can prevent age-related decreasing in cognitive function.”

Thanks to pop star Miley Cyrus, the health and nutrition world is buzzing about a gluten-free diet as a means to lose weight. There are lots of different opinions and some of them are quite harsh. Let’s take a closer look at the whole gluten-free-diet-debate.
Gluten is found in grains like wheat, barley, and rye; and it gives baked goods the chewy texture that most consumers find desirable. Diets excluding gluten are recommended for people with celiac disease, but don’t expect avoiding gluten by itself will encourage weight loss. Any diet too high in grains raises blood sugar, which encourages fat storage. People on gluten-free diets can consume a variety of grains and starches (rice or potatoes, for example) that raise blood sugar. (Source: Policy Mic)
Does that mean you’ll gain weight if you’re on a gluten-free diet? No, not per se. Everyone is different and has different responses. But if you start a gluten-free diet there’s indeed a possibility you’ll lose some weight… How you may wonder? Continue reading
